Planning Meeting

Date: Sunday 29th December, 2024
Time: 11:45am, Moonee Ponds Baptist Church

We have two awesome events coming up this January, and they’re running back to back! Come to one, or better yet, come to both.

Kickstart the new year with a breathtaking hike to the iconic Mt. Feathertop! Get ready for stunning views, great company, and a challenge you won’t forget. Bring your hiking boots as we explore God’s creation together.

Then trade your hiking boots for paddles as we head to Tintaldra for an epic canoeing adventure! Glide along the river and soak up the scenery as we share stories together in community.

Keen for both? You can jump straight from the Mt. Feathertop hike into the canoe camp—back-to-back adventures for the ultimate start to 2024! And as a bonus, if you come to the canoe camp, there is no cost to the hike!

Youth, Young Adults, Families and Adventurers of all ages are welcome! Bring your own camping gear and food.

For all those interested or thinking about coming along, please join us for a planning meeting on Sunday the 29th of December at Moonee Ponds Baptist Church

We can’t wait! Click the link below to register for this all-ages camp.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Questions

We’ve had some great questions about the camp. Please see below for more information about some of the logistics of the weekend.

What are the plans for the week?
For those hiking, on Monday we will head up to Hotham and camp at JB Plain Hut. On Tuesday, we will be walking The Razorback Ridge starting from Diamantina Hut and hiking 10km to the Federation Hut Camp Site. From here, we will set up camp and hike up to the peak of Mt. Feathertop, and explore the surrounding area in the Alpine National Park. On Wednesday, we will hike back down to Diamantina Hut to finish up the hike.

Those attending both the hike and canoe camp will head on towards Tintaldra and meet up with the other group. Those who are only doing the hike will be dropped off at Wangaratta Station to take the train back to Southern Cross or in any available cars heading back.

For those coming to the canoe camp, we will head towards Tintaldra on Wednesday and set up camp at Clearwater Caravan Park in the upper Murray. We plan on offering a 3-4 hour session of canoeing on both Thursday and Friday depending on the weather. On Friday night, we will be sharing in a pub meal at the local hotel in Tintaldra before heading back to Moonee Ponds on Saturday.

Throughout the camp, we will be sharing a thought for the day and hearing stories of people’s encounters with Jesus.

How can I help?
If you have any spare Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) / Life Jackets, please reach out! It will be great for us to have some spare for the canoeing trip.

What do my costs cover?
Your payment covers transport to and from each location, camping fees and canoe hire.

How do I pay?
Payment can be made via bank deposit to the following details.

Moonee Ponds Baptist Church
BSB: 033 062

Do I have to bring along my own water?
We recommend that everyone brings along a supply of their own water. Please bring water bottles so that you can stay hydrated while hiking and canoeing.

For those hiking, there is untreated tank water available at Federation Hut where we will be camping. There is also access to fresh water 5 minutes walk down the hill from the hut.

For those canoeing, there will be access to fresh water at the caravan park where we are staying.

Will there be access to hot water or a way to boil water?
Yes – See the packing list. Some leaders are also bringing along their own burners.

What is the toileting situation?
There are pit toilets at the Federation Hut Camp Site for those hiking to Mt. Feathertop. Bring your own toilet paper!

We will have access to toilets and hot showers at Clearwater Caravan Park in Tintaldra for those attending the canoeing camp.

What if I don’t have my own tent?
Please let us know in the form upon registering.

  • Freeze-dried or dehydrated meals (Really easy, just add water!)
  • Wraps / Rolls / Sandwiches (Using cured meats such as salami are a great option, hard cheeses work well too)
  • Pasta (a simple tomato-based sauce that can be warmed up / pesto pasta)
  • Canned tuna or other proteins
  • Crackers / chips as snacks
  • Bread and spreads
  • Milk powder is great to add to tea/coffee and cereals/oats.
